A list of Beer-Centric Establishments defined as Taprooms, Bars, Pubs, Restaurants, and Pizza Joints in Orange County (OC). Note: This is a live document and will be updated periodically.
Definitions for each are provided below, in the context/usage of this list and to help guide you find the type of place you are looking for. Note some establishments may have contracted "house" beers and/or may be affiliated with a brewery, but is not recognized as a satellite tasting room.
Taproom - Major focus on beer. Can have food, but it is optional. Usually small bites, charcuterie, or deli-style. It may be in conjunction with a bottle shop, homebrew supply, or similar. May be labeled as Ale House, Tap House, or similar.
Bar - May be themed, but not required. Usually does not offer food, but can. Other drink offerings depend on licensing. Regularly loud music and/or DJs are typical but optional.
Pub - Very broad range. May offer other drinks like wine or cocktails, but they are not required. Beer is equally or more focused than other drinks and food. The feel can range from slightly to much more casual than a Restaurant. Some locations may give off a sense of class. Bottle shops or other retail/foods may be sold, either on-premise or off-premise. May be labeled as Tavern, Inn, Deli, or similar.
Restaurant - Major focus on food, cocktails, and other drinks, but beer is not an apparent afterthought. Range from very casual to a sports bar to a family spot. Beer lists are usually similar to a Pub but do not have the “Pub” feel.
Pizza Joint - May offer dine-in, take-out, delivery, or any combination of the three. May be fast-casual or wait-service. Usually offers other food items. Contains a bar with local/unique/hard-to-find offerings. The beer list does not need to be extensive. Wine is usually offered and may have full-bar/cocktails. Establishments may have an Italian restaurant, sports bar, or similar feel.
